Selby Abbey is one of England’s great medieval churches, founded in the 11th century. Known for its beautiful stained-glass windows, soaring arches, and peaceful atmosphere, it has been a place of worship for nearly 1,000 years. Students will step inside to admire the Gothic architecture and discover the abbey’s fascinating history.
The market town of Selby grew around the abbey and has a history stretching back to Viking times. Today, it’s a small but lively town with shops, cafés, and traditional Yorkshire charm. Students can enjoy walking the streets, exploring local history, and seeing how the abbey has shaped the town for centuries.
Castle Howard is one of England’s most famous stately homes, built over 300 years ago and still lived in by the Howard family today. With its grand architecture, ornate rooms, and over 1,000 acres of gardens, lakes, and woodland, it’s a stunning example of Yorkshire heritage. In recent years, Castle Howard has also become a star of the screen — it was used as a filming location for the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, making it even more popular with visitors from around the world. Students will explore the house, stroll through the beautiful grounds, and discover why Castle Howard is both a historic treasure and a modern cultural icon.
