The Captain Cook Experience is a fun boat trip on a replica of the Bark Endeavour, the ship used by the famous explorer Captain James Cook. Lasting about 20 minutes, the trip sails along Whitby’s dramatic coastline, offering great views of the harbour, cliffs, and Whitby Abbey. Students will enjoy being on the open water while learning about Cook’s voyages and Whitby’s seafaring history.
The 199 Steps are one of Whitby’s most famous landmarks, leading from the harbour up to Whitby Abbey. Built in the 1300s, they were once climbed by pilgrims on their way to the abbey. Today, they’re famous not only for the breathtaking views at the top, but also for their link to Bram Stoker’s 'Dracula' — in the novel, Count Dracula runs up the steps in the form of a black dog. Students can follow in his footsteps and enjoy the dramatic view over Whitby.
Whitby Abbey is a dramatic clifftop ruin overlooking the North Sea. Founded in the 7th century, it has stood for over 1,350 years and inspired countless stories and legends. Its haunting Gothic arches famously inspired Bram Stoker’s 'Dracula', making it one of the most atmospheric sites in England. Students can explore the abbey grounds, enjoy stunning coastal views, and discover why Whitby Abbey remains one of the country’s most iconic landmarks.
